Electronic Prescription Service

We are now live with Phase 4 of the Electronic Prescription Service. You can read more about this on the NHS website. Benefits of electronic prescribing include:

  • Patients can collect repeat prescriptions from a pharmacy without visiting their GP, and won't have a paper prescription to lose
  • Prescribers can process prescriptions more efficiently and spend less time dealing with prescription queries
  • Pharmacies can reduce use of paper, have improved stock control, and provide a more efficient service to patients
  • You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as your repeat prescriptions can be made ready before you arrive
  • You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop

Requesting medication

If you do not wish, or are unable to use an online method of ordering, or perhaps the medication is not on your regular repeat list, then you will need to request in person or submit a written request by one of the following methods:

  • E-mail:  stjameshealthcentre@livgp.nhs.uk
  • On the right-hand side of your printed prescription there are tick-boxes next to each medication. Tick the boxes next to the ones you need, and drop it off at the surgery
  • Complete a medication request form at reception and hand it to the receptionist

We are unable to accept telephone requests for repeat medications. This facility is reserved for housebound patients or those aged over 65

If you require your prescriptions to be posted back to you please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope and allow extra time for the post.

Please note that drugs which have not been set up for repeat which were given for a single episode of illness or which need review cannot be supplied in this way. You will need to request it and you may be asked to make an appointment for review with a Clinician.

Prescriptions take 2 working days to be processed

If you have forgotten to order in time and are going to run out, the Reception Team will ask the doctor to review the request. If the doctor agrees that missing the medication might cause harm, they will process it that day. However, otherwise they will be processed in the normal way.
